A little background:
I am very close to my neighbors who live across they street. & they had a grandson who is my age that was in the Marine Corps. I met him after he graduated boot camp and we dated for a year. Even tho we weren't together & life took us in different directions there was no doubt that we both cared about each other. To be honest I thought we would be together again one day. Well the harsh reality is that war does not follow rhyme nor reason, it just is.
That phone call was to tell me that Zach had been killed in Afghanistan. He had been in country for 20 days. He and another fellow Marine were both killed a year ago today. It took a week for me to realize that I wouldn't see him walk acros the street barefoot to my house again. It was a hard time, it still is. I dealt with alot of feelings during that time but there was one thing I was always sure of, I was so very proud of him. He accomplished alot in the 5 years he served. He grew into such an incredible man. The Marine Corps was his calling, it was who he was.
I am thankful for the time I got spend with him, for the memories I will always have of him. I consider myself lucky to have met him & been able to call him mine for a little while...

Life is eternal, and love is immortal,
and death is only a horizon;
and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
